Reflect about the cross. Who does make it? Should I accept it?

The cross is an inevitable part of life. It is woven into our existence through suffering, trials, and sacrifices. But where does it come from? Who makes it?

Some crosses come from our own choices—mistakes, sins, or responsibilities we have taken upon ourselves. Others are given to us by life’s circumstances—illness, loss, or difficulties that we cannot control. And some crosses come from others—people who hurt us, misunderstand us, or place burdens upon us. Yet, no matter where it originates, the cross has the potential to transform us if we embrace it with faith.

Should we accept the cross? Jesus did. He did not seek suffering for its own sake, but He embraced the Father’s will with love, knowing that the cross was not the end—it was the path to resurrection. In Luke 9:23, Jesus tells us, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me." Accepting our cross does not mean passively enduring suffering, but rather carrying it with the confidence that God will bring forth something good from it.

At the same time, we must strive not to be a cross for others. Let our words, actions, and attitudes not add to the burdens of those around us. Instead of being a source of pain, let us be instruments of peace, encouragement, and love.

May we, like Simon of Cyrene, help others carry their crosses, rather than placing heavy loads upon them. And may we walk with Christ, trusting that beyond every cross, there is the promise of new life.
